The differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) is used
detect thermal transitions in materials. By comparing the heat flow
into a sample to a reference, it can determine:
- Glass transition temperature
- Melting temperature
- Heat of reactions
The Q100 DSC can also function in modulated mode (MDSC),
so that an oscillatory heating rate is applied. This way, the DSC can
differentiate between superimposed phenomena. An example is the
overlapping of the glass transition and crystallization events in a
polymer blend.
