The Kofinas Functional Macromolecular Laboratory at the University of Maryland, College Park has an opening for a postdoctoral research scientist. Current research aims in the synthesis characterization and processing of polymer based architectures used in a variety of technologies and devices ranging from energy storage to medical devices. Present problems of interest include: solution blow spun functional polymers as surgical sealants; biosensors for the detection of pathogens; point-of-care diagnostics; solid polymer electrolytes for lithium ion batteries; magnetodielectric polymer nanocomposites for radio frequency devices.
Compensation will be at or above NIH postdoctoral guidelines, and will include a competitive benefits and retirement package offered by the University of Maryland. Postdoctoral scientists will receive a renewable, annual contract with the expectation of completing 2‐4 years of postdoctoral training. Flexibility to pursue related areas of interest, to apply for grants and fellowships, and to develop independent research directions will be encouraged.
Qualifications and Applications Procedure:
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Bioengineering, and experience with experimental polymer science, biomaterials and nanotechnology. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following areas: 1) Biosensors, 2) Lithiium ion battery solid electrolytes, 3) synthesis and characterization of polymer based biomaterials, 4) magnetic nanoparticle polymer composites.
